KCBQ 1170AM and KPRZ 1210AM to Broadcast From Valley Center Fire Relief Center
Thursday, November 20, 2003 7:30 am PSTKCBQ 1170AM took "Larson Live" on the road last week to Crest and Julian, both areas severely damaged by the recent fires. Both stations have committed to continue remote broadcast coverage until the needs of the victims have been met.
"The fires are out, and so the disaster isn't headline news anymore. The true disaster is the loss the victims face now and the potential dangers ahead of the threat of mudslides and the elements. There were over 600 homes lost in Julian alone. Many of these people are sleeping outside because they have no place to go and with the holidays approaching, there will be a whole new set of circumstances for these victims to cope with. Society expects them to return to a sense of normalcy in their lives, but that is just the point. There is nothing normal about losing your entire connection to the past, present and even the future," commented Kimberly Bianco, Promotions Director for KCBQ and KPRZ.
"We believe that it is vital to let the community of San Diego know that these victims, are still in need, and will most likely be for quite awhile," Bianco continued. "As a community partner, it is our responsibility to respond to that need."
"We've got a lot of restoration that has to be done in San Diego County. Our goal is to heighten the awareness so that in the weeks and months ahead, people are still tuned in with the needs of those who have been affected," stated Mark Larson, host of "Larson Live" on KCBQ 1170AM.
Mark Larson will be at the Local Assistance Relief Center in Valley Center from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. to do his show "Larson Live." Dana Sturgeon, host of "The Dana Sturgeon Show" on KPRZ 1210AM, will be broadcasting live from the same location from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Within the next few weeks, KCBQ 1170AM and KPRZ 1210AM will be traveling to the affected areas of Alpine and Ramona, and then will probably return to the other areas of Crest and Julian.
