KKNT-AM to Host a Picnic for Military Families; Special Guest: Radio Talk Show Host Mike GallagherWednesday, April 23, 2003 12:11 pm PDT
All are invited to come and enjoy an old fashioned picnic, to show Arizona's military and defense industry families that Americans are thankful for their sacrifices. The event will be from 12:00 - 4:00 PM and will include music, food and activities for all ages. All are invited and admission is free. Family members with current military or defense industry I.D. will enjoy complementary food and activities. Each Arizona military family present will receive a "Thank You" box of goodies, made possible through generous donations form KKNT-AM 960 listeners and the Feed the Children Military Family Fund. Hosting the event will be Congressman Trent Franks, Mayor of Glendale Elaine Scruggs, News/Talk KKNT-AM 960 and Mike Gallagher.
Mike Gallagher commented, "I am extremely proud to have this opportunity to honor our military families. I personally invite everyone to join me in saying `Thank you' to the loved ones of those who are making huge sacrifices for our freedom. I look forward to meeting them all."
This event is being held in conjunction with the "Gallagher's Army" fundraising campaign for military families. To date, listeners have contributed over $200,000 to the "Gallagher's Army" fund to bring food and personal care items to military families all over the country.
For Gallagher, this fundraiser for military families is the highlight of a 25-year broadcasting career. "As a talk radio host, I'm used to complaining or agreeing on the radio -- it's all talk. This is the first time we've figured out a way to actually DO something to help people, in this case, American military families."
Mike Gallagher is the 7th most listened-to radio talk show host in the country, according to Talkers Magazine. He is heard by over 2.25 million listeners weekly, in top ten markets like Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, and Washington, D.C. as well as cities all over the country. He is a frequent guest on national television networks like FOX News Channel, CNN, MSNBC, and Court TV. In addition to being wildly popular with listeners, Mike Gallagher is enormously respected by his peers in the radio industry. In 2003, he was named to Talkers Magazine's "Heavy Hundred List": the 100 most influential and compelling talk hosts in America, for the 9th consecutive year.
John Timm, KKNT General Manager, commented, "KKNT is excited to have Mike Gallagher join us for this event. He continues to show great support for our troops and we expect him to be the voice of true patriotism. This is a wonderful opportunity for our station to embrace our military families and give our listeners the same chance to show their gratitude."
