School Board Candidates Respond to Calvary Chapel Invitation

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Calvary Chapel:

WHAT: Local school board candidates representing Thousand Oaks,
Oak Park, Westlake Village, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Camarillo and
Newbury Park were invited to address the congregation and the
community by Calvary Chapel Thousand Oaks on five issues of
concern to families. The church ran advertisements in local
daily and community newspapers with a community-wide invitation,
and sent personal letters to all candidates. (see issues below)
 
WHO: The following school board candidates have responded that they
will attend service and address the issues of concern:

-- Mike Dunn (Conejo Valley)
-- Greg Lennox (Conejo Valley)
-- Tim Penix (Conejo Valley)

WHEN: Sunday, October 29 during the 11:15 a.m. service. Each candidate
in attendance will have three minutes to share his/her views on
issues of concern to families in the community. This service is
open to everyone.

ISSUES:
 

-- Parental notification on controversial textbook changes and

material that could be deemed offensive to
personal/moral/religious beliefs;
-- Abstinence education and parental consent before students are
instructed on issues related to human sexuality including
discussions on alternative lifestyles;
-- Stressing basic academic skills over more socially-oriented
curriculum;
-- Moment of silence for voluntary prayer in schools;
-- Teaching alternatives to evolution theory such as intelligent
design.
